Cultural Celebrations
Hispanic Heritage Month
From September 15 to October 15 the Intercultural Center celebrates Hispanic culture by having a kickoff celebration at the beginning of the month, partnering with the university’s Recognized Student Organizations and the Emporia community. Throughout the rest of Hispanic Heritage Month our office works with RSOs to provide other engaging events and activities.
Native American/Indigenous Heritage Month
November is recognized as National Native American and Indigenous Heritage Month, the Intercultural Center celebrates the community by bringing in guest speakers and understanding the importance of learning and sharing the history and personal stories of people in the Native American and Indigenous community.
Martin Luther King Jr Day
Martin Luther King Jr. Day annually falls on the third Monday in January. The Intercultural Center celebrates by convening with Recognized Student Organizations, community partners, students, faculty, and staff of Emporia State to converse and engage in talking about and continuing the work of Dr. King.
Black History Month
February is recognized as Black History Month and the Intercultural Center supports our Black Student Union as they spearhead the events and activities throughout the month. BSU works intently to showcase events that are impactful and provide an understanding of the importance of Black history and work of the Black community.
Women’s History Month
In March, Emporia State recognizes Women’s History Month, the Intercultural Center supports the Ethnic and Gender Studies program. They host events all month long for anyone to engage in learning about women’s history and activities to encourage support for women’s rights.
Developmental Disability Awareness
Developmental Disability Awareness is recognized in March. The Intercultural Center sees the importance of advocacy, understanding, and awareness of individuals with disabilities through educational events and activities.
Campus LGBTQ+ Pride Month
LGBTQ+ Pride Month is celebrated in April at Emporia State University. The Intercultural Center works in connection with the People Respecting Individuality and Diversity in Education (P.R.I.D.E) Recognized Student Organization to provide a series of educational and immersive events and activities throughout the month.
Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month
The month of May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The Intercultural Center intends to celebrate the month by providing engaging activities for participants to learn about Asian American and Pacific Islander culture and history.
