Candidate Orientation
Prospective Students
- Review the Introduction to the School Counseling Program Handbook.pdf.
- For additional questions contact Carleen Dvorak, administrative specialist, who can answer basic questions or place you in contact with the current Program Coordinator for School Counseling.
- On page 5 of the School Counseling Program Handbook, are links with information about the School Counseling profession.
Applicants
- Complete the Graduate School application and the School Counseling Program Application at the links provided.
- Please note that while formerly required, neither GRE or MAT exam results are required for admission to the School Counseling Degree Program.
- A standard reference checklist form is provided through an application link, however, you are encouraged to consider written letters submitted by references as they generally provide a more complete view of the applicant. Written letters of reference can be submitted to Carleen Dvorak. - Make certain you access your ESU email account consistently, as that account will be used for all further ESU communications between you and the university.
- Initiate follow-up with Carleen Dvorak to check the status of your application materials.
- Read the complete Program Handbook carefully. Doing so will facilitate the remaining steps of the admissions process.
- When interview dates have been finalized, you will be notified through your ESU email account of a the next scheduled applicant interview date. As there will be multiple interview slots you are encouraged to call as soon as possible for your preferred time.

- Please review the School Counseling Program Handbook carefully as it will serve as a guide for making decisions through completion of the degree and beyond.
- We will do our best to keep the handbook up-to-date with any changes.
- Please refer to the handbook on-line initially to answer questions you may have. If you cannot find the information needed, make sure to contact your advisor.
