Rochelle Rowley

Hello! I’m an Associate Professor in the Sociology and Crime and Delinquency Studies programs and Graduate Director of the Master of Applied Sociology program. I earned my Master of Arts in Sociology from Wichita State University in 2007 and Ph.D. in Psychology emphasis in Community from Wichita State University in 2012. I teach undergraduate courses in Intimate Relationships, Intimate Violence, Child Abuse and Maltreatment, Intro to LGBT+ Studies, Intersectionality and Identities, and Social Stratification. Graduate courses I teach include Intersectionality and Identities, Community Leadership and Social Justice, and Grant Proposal Writing. My current research projects include an analysis of popular music from 2001-2015 for social justice messages, as well as personal, interpersonal, and social impacts of identity invalidation through anti-LGBTQ+ political actions. Past research publications include topics on cyberbullying, youth relationships, teen dating violence, and civic engagement.

I am the current Kansas State Director for the Midwest Sociological Society, co-advisor for the recognized student organization People Respecting Individuality and Diversity in Education (PRIDE), and I serve on several university committees. My community work includes SOS, Inc. as the Board Vice President. SOS serves families in four areas: child advocacy, C.A.S.A., child visitation and exchange, and crisis services. Additionally, I am a board member for Bloom House Youth Services, a new local organization to serve homeless youth in an LGBTQ+ friendly manner.
