Talent Scholarships Honor the Memory of a Big-Hearted Man
Mike Fiehler is Still Supporting His Team
Mike Fiehler loved sports, restoring antiques and a good prank. Fiercely loyal to all he called friends and family, he was often working behind the scenes to help others. No one knew this better than his wife, Lynn Fiehler.
After Mike’s passing, Lynn wanted to do something to honor how big-hearted he truly was. She wanted to enshrine all of Mike’s passions and virtues in a gift to help others, as a way to carry on his legacy. She was looking for something that supported his passions and aligned with the things he had loved in life.
Lynn thought of Emporia State. She and Mike had spent countless hours cheering on the teams. They enjoyed the games, spending the time together and, of course, supporting students. She decided a talent-based scholarship gift to Together, Forward, The Campaign for Emporia State University would be a great way to honor Mike’s memory.
Lynn created the Mike Fiehler Legacy Fund to support scholarships for baseball and band. These scholarships serve as a powerful tool to recruit talented students and help cover their tuition costs so that financial circumstances won’t stand in their way.
Seth Wheeler, head Baseball coach at ESU said, “The scholarship in Mike’s honor impacts multiple student-athletes on our team every year. It is the reason that these guys have the opportunity to play baseball at Emporia State, and they are well aware of the legacy that they are upholding within our program. Mike was a staple in our community and impacted so many people with his generosity and will continue to impact the young men in our program for years to come!”
It's truly a gift from the heart and one that Lynn hopes will inspire others to do the same. It would make Mike proud to know his love of sports and care for others keeps on making life better for his Hornet family. It’s a wonderful way to honor such a big-hearted person.
