Congratulations to ESU photographer Jordan Storrer for earning first place in the University Photographers’ Association of America’s Monthly Image Competition for March 2026.
Storrer’s photo submission, “Into the Fire,” earned her top honors in the News and college life category.
The monthly contest includes nine categories, with awards for first through fifth place and Best in Show. Submissions must be photos taken in service to the member’s university during the previous month, with only four entries allowed per month.
Storrer, a UPAA member for six months, shared about her photo: “After much rescheduling, the Field Sciences program was able to burn the campus prairie on the same day as our institution’s Founders Day celebration (of course). I was able to book it down there for the second half of the burning. In the process, I managed to catch this shot of Roe R. Cross Award-winning professor Bill Jensen, with a gas can, crossing into a portion of the unburned land to remedy that issue.”
The photo’s name, “Into the Fire,” was particularly meaningful to Storrer. While the obvious elements of the burn stand out, the image also symbolizes her hectic schedule, bouncing from one event to another and wearing many hats throughout the day.
Storrer has served as ESU’s first woman university photographer since 2023. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art from ESU in 2016.
