Emporia State’s King Lake is now in a watch for blue-green algae after follow-up water sampling by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The watch means that a harmful algae bloom may be present.
The watch includes these recommendations from KDHE:
- Use caution when in contact with water and wash with clean water after.
- Avoid areas of algae accumulation.
- Do not let pets eat dried algae or drink untreated water.
- If fish are caught, clean well and discard guts.
