When the clock hits noon Wednesday, Dec. 23, Emporia State University offices will close for the holidays. The campus will re-open at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2016. During the break, offices and buildings will be closed to the public.
The Emporia State University Foundation in the Sauder Alumni Center, 1500 Highland St., will re- open Dec. 28 to accept end-of-year gifts.
Congress is set to consider tax legislation this week that includes a permanent extension of the IRA charitable rollover. If the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015 signed into law, those 70 1/2 and older may transfer up to $100,000 from the IRA to a qualified public charity. The transfer is not subject to federal income tax and qualifies for the 2015 required minimum distribution.
Foundation staff will be on hand to assist with these and other gifts from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 31.
Anyone wanting to make a gift to Emporia State University before the end of the year should deliver the gift in person to 1500 Highland St., by Thursday, Dec. 31, or have it postmarked on or before Dec. 31. Online gifts can be made at https//hornetnation.emporia.edu/givenow. Gifts received or postmarked on or before Dec. 31 will be credited as gifts in 2015.
Although the entire campus re-opens Monday, Jan. 4, students won’t move back into residence halls until noon Sunday, Jan. 18. Classes for the spring semester begin Wednesday, Jan. 20.
