From Nov. 8 through 15, ESU Special Collections and Archives hosts the All Veterans Tribute Week exhibit “The Children’s War: Images of World War II in Children’s Books.”
On Oct. 30 from 2 to 4:PM, Emporia State University Special Collections and Archives will hold an opening reception for the exhibit “Objects of Interest: Archival Materials from Art to Textile.”
Two books with vastly different themes have captured the 2024 William Allen White Children’s Book Awards. One centers on a dog who learns to use her special training for a new purpose. The second looks at two different occurrences of September 11, 18 years apart, through the eyes of two children.
Emporia State University Libraries and Archives will host a bilingual literacy event to celebrate and promote literacy in children on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event will take place in the grassy area in Kellogg Circle near William Allen White Library. Rain moves activities inside the library.
William Allen White Library at Emporia State University will create two sensory spaces for those on the autism spectrum and other neurodivergent students, thanks to a $10,000 grant from an American Library Association initiative as well as an additional $10,000 grant from Women for ESU.
Emporia State University Special Collections and Archives will hold an opening reception for the exhibit “The Big Picture: Connecting with the Walter M. Andersen Collection” on Wednesday, March 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. The event takes place in the exhibit hall on the first floor of William Allen White Library.
A fun activity to test participants’ problem-solving skills also served as a fundraiser, highlighting the way Emporia State University’s University Libraries and Archives department helped to support an important campus initiative. The fall 2023 event, part of the library’s week of activities designed to give students a breather before finals, featured a “Stranger Things”-themed escape room. Once the students had a chance to participate, the escape room was opened to ESU departments and the Emporia community.
On September 6, Emporia State University Special Collections and Archives will present the exhibit A Journey Toward Freedom: Black Americans and the Great Migration.
ESU Special Collections and Archives will host “Free Did Not Mean Welcome,” a presentation and discussion by Carmaletta Williams at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, in the Learning Commons of William Allen White Library. Members of the community are invited to attend the free program, which is made possible by Humanities Kansas. Additional funding for this program was provided by the ITC Great Plains.
ESU Special Collections and Archives will host “Children of the Promised Land,” a presentation and discussion by Angela Bates, on Tuesday, March 28 at 7 p.m. in the Learning Commons of William Allen White Library. Members of the community are invited to attend the free program, which is made possible by Humanities Kansas. Additional funding for this program was provided by the ITC Great Plains.
