The first semester of competition has ended for the ESU debate team. Overall, 14 students participated in weekly practices with most devoting three or more weekends to participate in tournaments across the country.
Across nine tournaments, Hornet debaters participated in over 150 individual debate rounds and, as a squad, maintained a winning percentage above .500. Through their collective efforts, the debaters brought home a total of 10 team trophies and 12 individual speaker awards to freshen up the display cases located in King Hall.
With over 50 total wins against NCAA Division I athletics schools plus an Ivy League win under their belts, the ESU debaters continue to work hard preparing to achieve their second-semester goals, which include qualifying to the 72nd National Debate Tournament to be held at Wichita State University this spring.
