The Emporia State University Student Recreation Center is closed until further notice.
Around 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, law enforcement and rescue personnel responded to a report of a vehicle that was driven into the building through a wall on the west side. The building had been closed since 5 p.m. and was empty at the time.
The driver has been extricated. The public is asked to avoid the area while the scene remains under investigation, then is secured. The rec center will remain closed until structural damage can be assessed.
Responding departments included ESU Police & Safety, Emporia Police Department, Emporia Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services and Lyon County Sheriffs Office.
