Summer Camps Offer Immersive STEM, Esports and Athletics Opportunities

Students of all ages looking for summer activities are invited to explore camps hosted by Emporia State University.

The Inspired by Math camp is a math enrichment program for middle school students entering Grades 6 through 9 who are passionate about mathematics and other STEM areas. The camp will be at ESU Science Hall on Monday, June 10 through Thursday, June 13. The camp fee is $25 and attendees can register online.

For a fully immersive, multi-day gaming experience, students are invited to the ESU Esports Summer Camp. The event starts at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 28, and ends at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 30. The ESU Overwatch team will guide players through three days of skill-building, strategy, scrims, workshops and hands-on experiences.

Attendees can learn how to transform their excitement for tech and gaming into future careers and network with other local players. On the final day, parents and supporters are invited to watch the campers in action during a player expo.

The esports summer camp is available to middle and high school students and will be held on the ESU campus. The cost is $150 and includes meals, lodging, a t-shirt and the use of high-end gaming equipment. Campers can sign up now to reserve a space.

Science enthusiasts have a plethora of camping options from the Prophet Aquatic Research and Outreach Center. Science Camp includes a fun-filled week of hands-on learning experiences in partnership with the Emporia Recreation Center. There are two sessions remaining with openings still available.

The first session, from Tuesday, June 11 through Friday, June 14, welcomes students ages 9 to 10. The second session, from Tuesday, June 18 through Friday, June 21, is for ages 11 through 12. The fee is $125 and online registration is available at https://www.esuparoc.com/science-camps.

Two new PAROC camps are added to the summer activities. A Mini Science Camp is Tuesday, July 9 through Thursday, July 11, from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $50 per camper and is for ages 10 to 14. Over three days, campers will learn the fundamentals of experimentation, explore ecology and wildlife and delve into the world of microbiology.

A Mini Water Camp, focusing on aquatic ecology for ages 10 to 14, is Monday, July 29 through Tuesday, July 30. There is no cost to attend, however registration is required.

Space Camp, a collaboration between PAROC, the ESU Planetarium and the Imaginarium, will be Monday, July 15 through Friday, July 19. The fee is $150 per camper and open to campers ages 5 to 12. A waitlist is available by visiting emporiaimaginarium.org.

Emporia State Athletics offers athletes of all ages the opportunity to develop their skills through camps that include fundamental instruction, sport-specific strategies and the chance to meet new people. Volleyball, women’s basketball, softball, football, soccer and tennis camps are planned for various grades or age groups.
