Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration to be held on Emporia State campus

The Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion of Emporia State University announced plans for the 2017 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration event, to be held Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, in Emporia.

The event will include a featured children’s event at 10:45 a.m. in Emporia State's Memorial Union Ballroom. This year’s facilitator is Deidra Elijah, education major at ESU. Several ESU students and the Lyon County RSVP Retired Seniors will be volunteering and participating in the day’s event.

The Celebration March will begin at 5 p.m. at ESU's Plumb Hall and the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Dinner will follow at 5:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 807 Constitution St. in Emporia. The celebration will start at 7 p.m.

These events are open to the public and are free.
