For 28 years, the National Teachers Hall of Fame has marked American Education Week with a live auction to raise funds for the June induction of five educators to the Hall of Fame. The 2020 auction — the 29th — is on Thursday, Nov. 19.
The live auction begins at 6:05 p.m. on Thursday and will be carried live locally on radio station KVOE-AM 1400 and Valu-Net, and livestreamed across the country on kvoe.com at http://www.citylinktv.com/channel/emporia-kvoe/.
More than 75 packages are up for bid during the auction.
Said NTHF Executive Director Carol Strickland, “There is something for everyone in this year’s auction, and we hope that people will watch, listen, and bid. Items range from homemade ice cream, catered dinners, home décor items, fitness packages, autographed items (including Bob Dole’s autobiography) to pampering packages for people, pets, and cars, and everything in between. We have some very unique items this year that will please many people.”
Photos and lists of items for the live auction are posted on the Hall of Fame’s Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as at www.kvoe.com and printed lists may be obtained from the NTHF office (Visser Hall 115 on the ESU campus).
Winning bidders will be notified on Nov. 20. All items will need to be paid for and picked up by Dec. 4. Because of the health restrictions, this year’s pick-up of items will be a little different from the past. On Friday, Nov. 20, winning bidders will have curbside pick up at the Emporia State Federal Credit Union on Industrial from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. After that, all items will be available at the Hall of Fame office in Visser Hall between 10
Added Strickland, a Hall of Famer who was inducted in 2003: “Emporia and our out-of-town angels have been wonderful year after year to the Hall of Fame, donating exciting items and also participating in the bidding process. We have lots of fun while trying to raise needed funds for the NTHF. Anyone who hasn’t listened to or watched the live auction before is in for a treat.
