A message to Hornet Nation from ESU President Allison D. Garrett:

Dear Hornet Nation,
While votes are still being counted today, we find ourselves waiting for our next president to be declared.
Although this campaign and the election results show a divided country, we all have much in common. We all want a bright future for our country. We all have the same hope for progress that will create a better world for our children and grandchildren.
Defining our beliefs and exercising our right to vote were our first steps. Now, we must come together again as friends in our common pursuit of a better life. Let us seek to hear and value differing perspectives to build an even stronger country.
Students — if you find that you need some additional help today or in the days to come, please remember that ESU’s Student Counseling Center is offering extended hours today. They are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. then again from 6 to 9 p.m. Or you can call 620.341.5222. Or look at the Election Support module on the Counseling Center Resources Canvas page. A Racial Healing Space Group meets at 7 p.m. tonight via Zoom. You can find information on the same Canvas page.
Faculty and Staff — counseling is available through the Employee Assistance Program. Also, the Counselor Education Department of The Teachers College is working on some one-on-one and small group opportunities. Look for more information about these next week in Hornet Announcements.

As we move forward from the 2020 election, let us meet head-on our responsibilities to the present and the future. Let us support one another and continue to build Hornet Nation as a place where all are invited and all are welcome. Let us work together to build the future we want to see.
