Emporia State University is hosting a reception for two art exhibits that are part of Emporia First Friday on Sept. 6. The reception will be from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Bruder Lobby of King Hall on the Emporia State campus. Bruder Lobby is between the two exhibition spaces — Norman R. Eppink Art Gallery and the Gilson Memorial Gallery.
‘Free Ice Cream’ exhibit
A smile and a touch of happiness is the goal of freelance graphic designer and self-proclaimed “Ice Cream Ma’am” Tanya Rodriguez Rosenzweig whose exhibit “Free Ice Cream” premiered Aug. 19 at Emporia State University’s Norman R. Eppink Art Gallery through Friday, Sept. 27.
The artist from Round Rock, Texas, who says she owns her own ice cream truck, strives to bring the same reaction to her art as one would expect from receiving the chilly treat.
“Just like a surprise free ice cream, I hope my work adds a touch of happiness to your day,” Rosenzweig said.
Rosenzweig’s career, which started with vector art, includes design studios, in-house marketing teams, freelancing and contract work, which provided the artist an understanding of how branding works and is simple to achieve if done correctly. Rosenzweig added, “The result reflects yourself in everything you create, even if it’s a design job for someone else.”
Artist Rosenzweig will present the ESU Art Forum Lecture before the reception. The forum is from 4 to 4:50 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at the Lyon County History Center, 711 Commercial St.
‘Rolled: Prints from the Street’ exhibit
On display in the Gilson Memorial Gallery located in King Hall, "Rolled: Prints from the Street" is a collection of artwork from the Public Art course at Emporia State focusing on oversized woodcut blocks carved and then printed using a steam roller during this past May Emporia First Friday. The prints from this event are on display, featuring works by both students and faculty.
Featured artists are Bri Edwards, Nick Collins, Malissa Deters, Tina Robertson, Rachel Rodenmayer, Wren Clements, Deborah Burgess, Destiny Sharp, Alexander Stewart, Kyra Stuhlsatz, John Decker and Hailey Quick
Regular hours for both galleries are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, but they will be open until 8 p.m. Friday to coincide with the reception.
