Emporia State University Theatre presents Euripides’ “Medea,” in a new version by Ben Power, as its fall 2020 show. Two free performances will be presented on the steps of ESU’s Memorial Union at 5 p.m. Oct. 30 and 31 with an alternate performance scheduled for Nov. 1, in case of inclement weather. The production runs 90 minutes.
Cecil O’Brate and the late Walter Beech have been announced as the 2020 Kansas Business Hall of Fame inductees. This marks the 32nd year of inductions into the Kansas Business Hall of Fame, located at Emporia State University in the School of Business’ Cremer Hall.
The Kansas Master Teacher program at Emporia State University is another temporary casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic after the award committee decided to suspend the awards for the 2020-21 academic year.
Fighting food insecurity is a timely topic on the Emporia State campus during October with a Can COVID donation campaign for Corky’s Cupboard food pantry, a grant to expand the pantry and access to the “Hungry to Learn” documentary.
“Children are not robots, what happens in their lives outside of school — particularly at this time — impacts their ability to learn,” said Melissa Gerleman, instructor in the Department of Elementary Education, Early Childhood, and Special Education. With an ever-growing awareness of students needing their feelings addressed for learning to occur, Gerleman worked with colleagues to develop coursework for educators wanting to help students.
The Teachers College at Emporia State is nationally recognized as a leading institution in teacher preparation in the country while the Hornet Athletic programs historically compete on the national level in NCAA Division II.
