While hailing the groundbreaking of a new Nursing + Student Wellness building at Emporia State as a landmark moment in the university’s history, featured speakers continued to shine the focus on ESU students as both the future and why decisions are being made.
The public is invited to join the Emporia State University campus community, donors and state leaders at the groundbreaking for the new 32,000-square-foot Nursing + Student Wellness building. This landmark event begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 24.
A new volunteer-led giving circle, created less than a year ago to support Emporia State University and its students, is already making a big impact.
For nearly three decades, Hershel and Augusta Shepherd’s magnanimity and commitment to academic excellence have allowed Emporia State University to recognize and aid more than 300 outstanding upperclassmen through the Shepherd University Scholars program.
The Goppert Foundation recently awarded Emporia State University a generous $100,000 grant for the new Nursing + Student Wellness Center’s Pediatric Care Simulation Room. This immersive, hands-on learning environment for ESU’s nursing students will be named in The Goppert Foundation’s honor.

Emporia State University’s landmark Together, Forward fundraising campaign raised $91,714,500, surpassing its original goal to become the most successful fundraising effort in ESU history.
At midnight on Dec. 31, Emporia State University’s comprehensive fundraising campaign, Together, Forward, officially ended. Gifts postmarked on or before Dec. 31 are still arriving, but the university can already report this has been the largest, most successful fundraising campaign in ESU history. The campaign surpassed its $75 million goal, and the final total will be publicly announced on Feb. 17, in conjunction with a celebration event for donors to the campaign.
Emporia State University will receive $500,000 for the Simulation Hospital in its new Nursing + Student Wellness Building after action December 27 by the Newman Regional Health Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees recognizes the historical partnership with ESU and is committed to continuing its support of nursing workforce development.
